Chipper Parts : Biomass Resources, Inc. since 1995 has only used one source for parts. Between Gregory R. True and Louie Thompson we have more chipper experience than any other part manufacturer. This ensures that we get you the right parts for your chipper at an unbeatable price. Typically our parts will be 20-25% less than our competitors and/or ordering directly from chipper manufacturers. In addition our parts are made of the highest grade steel available for that particular application and are fully guaranteed. Estimate example: Chipper Knives and Counterknives : BRI has also used the same source for knives and counterknives since 1995. Knives are a quintessential part of your chipper which is often overlooked and downplayed. Proper knife integrity, knife angle, grinding techniques, jig set-up, babbit temperature, and honing and deburring procedures are essential for proper operation of your chipper. BRI is happy to offer a competitively priced knife that is guaranteed for integrity. Unlike many other suppliers and chipper manufactures BRI does not use “Case Hardened Steel”. Case Hardened Steel or surface hardening is the process of hardening the surface of a metal, often a low carbon steel, by infusing elements into the material's surface, forming a thin layer of a harder alloy. Case hardening is usually done after the part in question has been formed into its final shape, but can also be done to increase the hardening element content of bars to be used in a pattern welding or similar process. This process is sometimes used by chipper manufacturers to cut costs. They cut costs by buying a lesser grade steel and hardening the surface. Which creates loss of knife integrity. In addition many new chipper systems make parts seem available exclusively through the manufacturer. Meaning if you buy their new pocket system you can only buy knives and hardware through them. This is 100% False because any aftermarket supplier can make those parts and knives with the proper template. If you are buying knives from a chipper manufacturer you could be paying more for case hardened steel. Causing the knife to splinter, shale, and chip more often than BRI’s knives. All of these conditions lead to decreased knife life and increased grinding time. Please refer to pictures below that demonstrate a new chipper system using manufacturer supplied knives. The knife grinder at this mill said that until they started buying manufacturer supplied knives he had never experience this type of chipping, splintering , or shaling. Note: these pictures are from May during non-frozen wood conditions, they are chipping block ends, and the conventional knives showed none of this wear. In addition to having to buy more knives, your knife grinder will have to spend more time grinding each knife, which in itself can cause numerous problems within your chipping process and in addition may cause him to cut corners to save time such as not honing and deburring knives (which if not done properly also causes increased knife wear and reduced chip quality) Please note that BRI is a consulting firm that analyzes all equipment and techniques on the market. The above example is taken from on-site experience and our suggestion regarding honing and deburring and other knife grinding techniques are essential for optimal chip quality which is our main focus and should be yours. The better chip you make the less trees you have to chip, the happier your customer is, and the more money you make. We have essential reversed engineered your chipping process from digester back through every step of the process to ensure that your chipper is producing the best quality chip at the highest level of production. Knives and Counterknives play a huge role in ensuring your operations is running at optimal performance levels. If you have any questions or concerns of your knife integrity, grinding techniques, babbit temperature, etc. Please do not hesitate to call 877-569-6117 for a detailed analysis of your knives. Our step by step Knife Grinding Procedures is an all inclusive guide to knife grinding and honing and deburring techniques:
